How Much Lash Adhesive Should I Use?

More adhesive does not automatically mean stronger retention, and using as little adhesive as possible is not automatically better either.

The goal is controlled adhesive that allows you to create a clean, secure attachment for the technique you are performing.

Stop Focusing Only on the Dip

Artists sometimes become focused on copying the exact adhesive bead they see another artist create.

Instead, look at the finished attachment.

Is there enough contact with the natural lash? Is the attachment clean? Is excess adhesive creating unnecessary bulk? Are your retention results consistent?

Different techniques and extension types can also carry adhesive differently, which is why one visual rule does not fit every application.

Adhesive Amount and Speed Work Together

Your perfect dip means very little if too much time passes before you make the attachment.

Think of the dip, movement, placement, and attachment as one connected process rather than separate techniques.

If you want to improve, film a close up practice session. Watching your dip and placement together can show you habits you may not notice while working.

The Takeaway

Do not chase the biggest adhesive bead or the smallest one.

Aim for a clean, controlled amount that works with your technique and creates consistent attachment.

Your retention result is more important than whether your dip looks exactly like another artist's.
